Thank you to everyone that came out Saturday and helped with the middle school. It was great to see everyone work together! But we still have a long road ahead of us. Starting this Saturday, June 27, we'll be working every Saturday to fix the middle school building. This is a big, but much needed, project. As soon as repairs are complete, this will be the official School of Religion building.
If you are interested in volunteering or donating materials, please contact the parish office at (816) 231-0953.

Join Our Lady of Peace Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 9:00AM as we work to reconstruct the old St. Stephen's Academy Middle School building. The building is being renovated to later serve at the School of Religion building. This is a VERY big project and we ask for everyone's help. This is not a job that only a few people will be able to tackle.
If you are interested in volunteering or donating materials, please contact the school office at (816) 231-0953.

Our Lady of Peace congratulates St. Stephen's Academy teacher Ms. Kathy Coleman for being named a "Terrific Teacher" by the Northeast News.
Ms. Coleman has taught for 20 years, all at St. Stephen's Academy. In the article, St. Stephen's Academy principal Richard Soeteart says, "Every year there are students who come back and have to speak to Ms. Coleman."

Sometime after the warm days of last fall, St. Stephen’s Academy shut down the three air conditioning units on the roof of their school. When they restarted the air conditioning this spring, they found that the systems were not operational because the copper tubing was gone. Not only does this crime release a large amount of refrigerant into the atmosphere, the school community has suffered through recent warm days and heat and humidity are bad for newly installed network servers.
Technicians already are at work putting the system back into working order, installing additional monitoring equipment, and securing access to the roof.
With an annual facility maintenance and repair budget of $6,000, however, the school has an uphill climb. Richard Soetaert estimates that the unfunded gap for the deductible and additional security measures far exceed whatever remains in the budget. He indicated that the repair to the HVAC system was $31,649 and insurance covered $26,894. These figures do not reflect costs for the additional security measures.
The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph has established a fund to assist St. Stephen's. To donate, please go to http://ecommerce.diocese-kcsj.org/ecommerce/fund.php?ID=100
